Natatorium & New Gym
For those who have not been "home" for a while, here are a few dramatic changes... Okay, took down the pictures of the gate, Military and terrorist thing if you know what I mean!!
Wow, thanks so much Mali for posting these pictures! Gosh, this makes me miss "our" time! But not to say that this doesn't look good, wish they upgraded everything when we were there...then again, I guess what we had was new...I remember the exchange's grand opening...so I guess it's was new... Just doesn't look as good as the new stuff now...thanks again Mali!
Your welcome! They had the Far East Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at the Thew Gym. I was supposed to go and take pictures but I was sick!! sorry. Per info from several people, they will be building a Barracks where the Thew Gym currently stands in the near future.
Aya, the 5th picture is fhe front of the gym. The hump on the right side (2nd floor) is where the pool, locker room, shower and sauma's are. Under that is the office, raquetball courts and Nautilus room. The hump on the left (2nd floor) is the basketball court and under that is the free weights room, cardio room, multipurpose room and rental locker rooms.
Mikey...I gotta ask you. What do you do man...all your pictures with the lady's got me wondering!!
It's a shock isn't it!! I was shocked when they opened in January. It's really nice and I was going to add other pictures but the inside of a gym is normally the same every where so I figured I'll just put up the main ones.
one thing i did remember when i managed to get on base in 96, were the new towers that had sprung up everywhere. so what is the housing situation like now, are most people in towers, or are there still a fair number of the townhomes?
hey doug, you and your city/base planners are doing a hella of a good job with the base. i know a lot of the old stuff we miss seeing but i'm sure they were in need of upgrades.
awesome pictures of the gym mali, but is there any chance you might have pics offbase on that one main street with all the department stores and little shops? or even mikasa park?
now for offbase, those who haven't been back since 87ish may be surprised by the following (i certainly was): prince hotel where the old empty club alliance was; large daiei shopping mall and highrise japanese condos in that empty area between base and yokosuka JR station; huge overhead walkway in front of, and new shopping building behind of, yokosuka chuo station. not to mention the original saikaya bldg now has a gap (the clothing store) on its entire second floor. i always look forward to what else's changed each time i go back.
All Righty then...on the request line we have schools, cafe and a few shots from offbase. You want a pic of the YS Middle school too? Yes, for those of you who don't know, there is a YS Middle school. Okay, I will try and do the picture thingy this weekend.
okay girl, since both my kids go to Sullivans, I believe I can do this and take some pictures. You know, Malaarni's (Bantug) mom was my sons 2nd grade teacher.... But wait, did you want the pictures of Sullivans where it's at now or when it used to be where the Navy Lodge now stands??? Just so you know, I don't have any of the old Sullivans pictures.
Awww, I didn't realize they tore down the old one...heck, I didn't even know there was a new one. I believe my husband's former co-worker's sister or is it the sister's husband is the principal of Sullivan. Anyhow, can you do both? Hope we're not asking too much =) Do what you can do, we're just happy we have friends there that can take any kind of pictures =)
mali, when did they create a middle school? was it when they completed the new bldg? i think i remember something during bldg planning stages that they were going to create a jr high section.
The school opened for classes in August 2003 so this is the 3rd year in operation. The school is located in front of Ichiban, Niban and Sanban Tower. I think it was called Briggs Bay Field back then. Have a lot going on this weekend so the pictures may have to wait but I will post them for sure...Gomen ne!!

So since the gym is on the old field where does the school play football at?
They have the games bye Roach's office. On the other side of the golf range.

Peter, what are you talking about....it's the new gym, not the school. It's okay, I know, we've all grown somewhat....old!
Mali or Dako, how about some pix of the school... and the cafe!!!

Mali are you including Sullivan as part of your school pictures? If not, please. Thanks!
